RE: Recommended Park in Moab

When we were out that way we stayed at Arches View campground. Nice place and nice people running it. You can see some of the arches from the campground! Moab will want to make you move there. Happy camping.

RE: disconnect dual cam when backing?

The hitch does not know forward motion from backing motion. If you would remove the bars before a sharp turn going forward then, by all means, go ahead and remove them when backing. If you do not stop and remove the bars before making sharp turns going forward it would make no sense to remove them when backing. If you think your bars are going to slip off of the cams then bring your rig back to the dealer or whoever set up the hitch and tell them to do it again and to do it correctly. A proper installation will let you hit the a-frame with your TV without dropping a bar. For those with round bars, your weak link is the spring clip that holds the bars into the head as that is all that is holding the bar in when it is not under tension. A witness to this is a campground in Maine that has a large collection of round bars that get dropped as the owners go over a sharp rise at the camp entrance that takes the tension off of the bars.

RE: Dodge heating up when towing

Your best bet is to add a better driver/vehicle interface. First, remove the thing that decides when to shift and put in a user friendly model that lets you control when it shifts. A 5 or 6 speed will do, then have the computer flashed to purge it of all the evil shift points. Next, ride and tow wherever you want without any cooling problems.
We tow a lot and be it in Phoenix summer or on top of the Rockies, our 4.7 has never even gone into the red zone even though the TT is pushing 6,000 pounds.

RE: Portable dehumidifier

Most units come with their own built-in dehumidifier on the roof that works very well, even at the beach. Why would you want to add another?

RE: Generator keeps flipping breaker

The AC unit may be getting annoyed at all the noise and is sending bad vibes to the generator and making it shut down or maybe the neighbors are flipping the breaker. Get a quiet generator and I bet it won't happen again.

RE: RV's seized from dealership

Let's not blow this thing out of proportion! This is the same problem that lots of car dealers have but are not reported in Newsday because they are heavy advertisers. Newsday is a biased paper and will slam ANYBODY that does not do a lot of advertising in their paper and actually got caught scamming advertisers into higher rates on grossly inflated circulation data. That ended after a federal and state lawsuit that caused a number of local editions of the paper to be closed.
About 14 years ago they slammed a local government contractor because they could ONLY get a 4.5 billion dollar contract! The fact that it was one of the biggest in local history somehow got lost but the writer had a grudge as he was turned down for work at that company and wanted payback. Newsday is extremely biased against local businesses and the locals here know that and do not give their business section much credibility.
That said, let's wait for the truth to come out.

RE: Need your air compressor suggestion

My solution was a little different. I got a small 110v compressor and a 6 gallon air tank. I made a setup that lets me connect the tank directly to the compressor with a quick disconnect and I fill the tank and use it to blow out the TT lines along with an adapter that has a tire valve on it and a hose cap on the other side that goes to the city water fitting. Works very well and has the added value of being much lighter than a self contained compressor and tank. With the 120# of air in the tank it allows me to add air to my tires if they need it before setting off in the morning without having to wake the neighbors at the campground.
I also got a small inverter (300 watt) so in an emergency I can air up the tank on the road using 12 volts available. The tank is about 12 pounds and the compressor is about 7. Wally World has both.

RE: Travel Star 28SSO owners

First off, according to the Starcraft site there is a TV available with the unit and it is a 15" LCD unit with a DVD player. It is possible that the TV illustrated in the virtual tour of your unit is that TV as they usually use options to fill out a unit for display. If Starcraft is using the same equipment as usual then it is a short Queen bed which really is not a problem.
You should enjoy the quality of the unit as Starcraft has a good reputation and history. We have taken ours over 12,000 miles and other than a loose cable connector for the TV and a couple of drawer screws backing out it has been a flawless unit that tows like a charm. Enjoy your unit and happy camping!

RE: Travel Star 28SSO owners

You might want to add the questions to your post as there is very little about TT's that is exclusive to any one unit.

Original screen names

The site is sort of working now so how about fixing the name problem? It seems a lot of us had to use new screen names because bad coding would not let us log in as our old names and now that the forums are up and running it is time to give us back the original names we were using. How about it programmers?

RE: melted prong on camper plug

Whoever tinned the wires on that connector did not do you any favors. If the wire gets hot it melts the solder offering even more resistance and heat melting more solder and so on. Eventually you find the fire. NEVER tin high current wires unless you enjoy the thrill of putting out fires.

RE: Dometic refrigerator recall

30 minutes and it was done and the tech that did it looked like he had done hundreds of them. The kit adds 2 thermal cutoffs of which one is resettable and the other is like a fusible link and melts if it gets too hot in the stack area and the first cutoff didn't work.

RE: Bubbly battery

12.9 volts is not up to the job. Next battery should be charged by the on board converter as chargers are a lot rougher on a battery.

RE: Coupler and Ball Problem (pics) REPAIRS PICS NOW

First, neither of the parts is hardened steel so gouging and scoring are very easy. Second, heed the cues of the above posters that suggest cleaning and regreasing on a regular basis due to dirt collecting in the grease. It looks like your coupler needs a lot of work with a die grinder to get that ridge out of it and the ball is not in a lot better shape except for the fact that most of the ball damage is a gouge and not a ridge.
Cut the shank off of the ball and lock it into the new coupler when the TT is in storage. You just bought yourself a new security device. By the way, do not get a Zinc plated ball as they tend to gall up quicker due to the softness of the plating. The best choice is stainless and the next is a quality chromed ball.

RE: GPS Error

Not only was he not watching the signs, but he was probably looking at the arch of the bridge at about eye level! I don't know about anybody else, but if I was driving and I was eye level to an obstruction and had a few more feet of rig over me I would do everything I could to stop first. As the dispatcher always says, "Backing and overhead collisions are ALWAYS the driver's fault".

RE: Happy Anniversaries! When are yours?

32 years come 10/31/2008. We have been camping one way or another since we met and will celebrate #32 with an outing to NYC and a performance of "Young Frankenstein" with a trip downtown to see the parade in the Village. How nice it is that so many people help us celebrate!
